Iran’s rulers have called on young people to build human chains around all power plants across the country. The country’s state news agency Fars News Agency released a video showing hundreds of people standing in front of a power plant on a ‘human chain’.
According to the commentary of the video published on social media on Tuesday, in response to the government’s call, ordinary people gathered in front of the Kazun Combined Cycle Power Plant and took a stand as human shields.
They are believed to have gathered there to prevent possible attacks or as a preventive symbolic position. Immediately after US President Donald Trump’s warning, the presence of ordinary people in front of Iran’s critical infrastructure has created renewed concern.
According to experts, it can be a symbol of people’s resistance on the one hand. On the other hand, the use of civilians as human shields in the face of such attacks is controversial in the eyes of international human rights law.
