US spending $2,500 million on Iran war: Pentagon

Date:

A top Pentagon official said that the United States has spent at least 25 billion (2 thousand 5 billion) dollars in the ongoing war with Iran.

Acting Pentagon Undersecretary (Comptroller) Jules Hurst gave this information while participating in the hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday.

Appearing at the hearing with Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, Jules Hurst said that most of the cost of the war was spent on ammunition and weapons. Apart from this, a large amount of money has also been spent on conducting military operations and replacing damaged equipment.

There has been a long-standing concern among US lawmakers about the amount of financial losses the US is suffering in this war that began on February 28. Democrats have been complaining that President Donald Trump started this costly war without congressional approval.

The hearing informed that not only the end of ammunition, but also the heavy damage to US bases in the Middle East due to Iranian drone and missile attacks.

Pentagon official Jules Hurst said the actual cost of the war is being assessed and separate funding may be sought from Congress to rebuild damaged military infrastructure in the future.

It should be noted that this hearing was organized to argue in favor of the huge military budget proposed by the Trump administration of 1.5 trillion dollars for the fiscal year 2027. But top Pentagon officials have come under harsh questions from lawmakers over the rising cost of the Iran war and the shortage of military equipment.
