Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep concern over the increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) amid the increase in commodity prices in the country.
In a statement sent to the media on Sunday, the party’s secretary general Mia Golam Parwar expressed this concern.
In the statement, he said, common people are already disoriented by the rise of daily commodities in the country. Among them, the government has made public life miserable by imposing additional cost burden on consumers due to the increase in the price of LPG and autogas used in households and cars, which is very worrying. I condemn such anti-people decision of the government.
Mia Golam Parwar said that the government has increased the prices of oil, gas and electricity. Due to the increase in the prices of various daily commodities, public life has been disrupted in the long run. Even though the income of various classes of people including the lower class, middle class has not increased, the normal life is being disrupted due to the increase in expenses. I call for immediate relief to the people by withdrawing the increased gas prices.
He also said that on August 2, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) increased the price of a 12 kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder widely used in households by Tk 70. As a result, the new price of 12 kg LPG cylinder at the consumer level has been fixed at Tk 1,598, which was Tk 1,528 before the price hike. Besides, the new price of autogas used in vehicles stands at 73 taka 67 paisa per liter.
He said, I am afraid that such an increase in the price of gas will affect all areas including the production sector of the country. For this reason, I am calling for taking necessary initiatives to import LNG to meet the needs of the country. At the same time, I am calling on the government to withdraw the increased price of LPG and bring relief to public life.
