Dhaka University Hosts Flower Festival

Dhaka University (DU) celebrated a flower festival with the theme ‘May the polluted city of Dhaka be adorned with flowers.’

The festival was organized by the university’s Arboriculture Center and held at Curzon Hall on Thursday (February 22). University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan was present as the chief guest at the event.

Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan thanked those involved in organizing the flower festival, stating that such events calm people’s minds. He emphasized that students must play a role in environmental conservation alongside their studies, assuring that Dhaka University authorities would provide full cooperation in this regard.

Under the management of Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Director of the Arboriculture Center, the event was attended by special guests including Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Hoque, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences; Professor Dr. Asfak Ahmad, Chairman of the Department of Botany; Sadiq Kayum, VP of DUCSU; and Professor Dr. Md. Azizur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Botanical Society.

Earlier, a rally was held in the Curzon Hall area to mark the flower festival. This was followed by a flower-themed quiz competition. Noor A. Mehnaz Sinha, a student of the Economics department, secured first place; Alo Akter, a student of the Mass Communication and Journalism department, came in second; and Mastura Mahjabin, a student of the Criminology department, placed third. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan handed over prizes to the winners.

Notably, the University Environment Parliament, Bangladesh Society for Ecological Research Initiative, Bangladesh Botanical Society, Dhaka North City Corporation, Bangladesh Green Future Foundation, and Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) provided overall cooperation in organizing this festival.
