Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has commented that the current state of global conflict seems to have started World War III. He claims that some international relations experts have already started calling the ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world as ‘World War III’.
He said these things in a meeting of the board of trustees of Russia’s Gorchakov Fund. According to Lavrov, recent events in Latin America and the Middle East are largely the result of Western attempts to maintain dominance.
He alleged that a small part of the Western world, especially their political elites, is spending their remaining political and economic resources to engage in conflict with Russia.
Lavrov also said that preparations are underway for the Russia-Africa conference to be held in Moscow next October jointly with African allies.
Concerns over the situation in the Middle East
Expressing deep concern over the situation in the Middle East, he said the deterioration of relations between Iran and its neighbors is worrying Russia. Accusing the US and Israel of “harsh military aggression” against Iran, he warned that this situation could pose a risk to global trade, energy security and international communication systems.
He said that Russia is already in contact with Iran and the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and is presenting its assessment.
The solution is through discussion
Russia believes that there is no alternative to talks to solve the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Lavrov said that solutions based on mutual interest and unity can be the most effective for the region.
Position on the Cuba issue
Lavrov also expressed concern about the increasing international pressure surrounding Cuba. He said that Russia supports Cuba’s right to sovereign development and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the country.
Palestine issue
Russia will continue to work together with Arab and Muslim countries to establish justice on the Palestinian issue. Lavrov said that they will continue their efforts to ensure a just solution to this problem as per the UN proposal.
