Maulana Farid Uddin Masood was the most trusted and controversial scholar of the Awami government and the Qaumi arena. He was also known as ‘Shahbagi Alem’ for appearing on the controversial Ganajagran Manch. Another notable controversial work of his is the anti-militancy fatwa signed by one lakh (alleged) muftis. Apart from this, he stood against the mainstream scholars of the country. He was always vocal especially against Jamaat.
Farid Uddin Masood disappeared from the normal scene after the popular uprising on August 5, 2024. A murder case has been registered against Masood at Mirpur police station in connection with the death of Rita Akhter (17), an HSC student of Mirpur Government College on August 5.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held at Al-Hayatul Ulaya Lil-Jami’ Atil Qawmia Bangladesh office in the capital Dhaka to prevent ‘Qoumi Madrasa propaganda and what to do in the emerging situation. Mufti Mohammad Ali, Secretary of Farid Uddin Masood Education Board National Religious Madrasa Education Board Bangladesh was present there.
