Leader of Opposition in Jatiya Sangsad and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. A delegation of International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International Idea) paid a courtesy call on Shafiqur Rahman MP.
The meeting was held at the parliamentary office of the opposition leader in the National Parliament on Monday afternoon.
The International Idea delegation was led by Lina Rikkila Tamang, director of the organization’s Asia and the Pacific region. Other members included Sumit Bisaria, Head of the Constitutional Governance and Rule of Law Program.
According to Jamaat, the meeting was held in a very sincere and cordial atmosphere. In the meeting, various important issues of mutual interest including the functioning of the National Parliament of Bangladesh, ‘July Charter were discussed.
The visiting party assured cooperation in strengthening democracy and institutional unity in Bangladesh. In his speech, Jamaat Amir mentioned the historical role of Jamaat in building democracy and stable Bangladesh and at the same time reiterated Jamaat’s strong position in implementing the July Charter and referendum verdict.
At this time, the leader of the opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP was present along with Dhaka-12 Constituency Member of Parliament Saiful Alam Khan Milan MP and opposition leader’s foreign affairs advisory party member Ali Ahmad Mabrur.
